Once upon a time, this caring young girl wanted to be a psychologist. She dreamt of going to a great university and one day, making lots of money. Sometimes life has different plans for us, and that's exactly what happened.
At first, I didn't know about my passion for baking, but others did. As an 18 year old, fresh out of high school, I had no job and I wasn't going to school. To say I had a lot of extra time on my hands was a huge understatement. I started with making my family's chocolate chip cookies, sharing them with anyone and everyone. I slowly started into other baked goods; fudge, cupcakes cakes, giant cupcakes. As people continued to tell me how good I was at baking, this is when I finally realized I had a passion for baking. With this newly discovered passion I enrolled into culinary school in 2015.

I was working as a Survival Swim Teacher at a local swim school when I first started school. My coworkers loved the goodies I would bring in from class. This is where I really learned to swim. I had always loved the water, so learning to swim all 4 strokes helped a lot. Eventually I left to follow my dream of being a baker with a national company. It was a great experience working there, but the work was nothing like I had experienced up to that point. In the 8 months I worked there, I got sick more than I did working with kids. I ended up getting strep throat the day before finals and because I was contagious, had to miss my final and failed the class. I haven't been back to school since.

I went back to the swimming job, still baking often at home. I started getting that feeling that I wasn't living up to my potential. While I was doing something I was good at and enjoyed, but wasn't what I loved. So, I found a new job as a confectioner/baker with an up and coming small business. It was tough being on the market for a new job as a baker with little to no professional experience. I got turned down so many times, but the shop I am at now took a chance on me. I have learned so much from them and am honored to be a part of their team.

One day, about two months ago, I had this thought cross my mind; I should start a blog. I kept sweeping the thought under the rug, so to speak, but it kept popping up. After discussing it with a handful of people, I finally decided to do it. "Just Do It" right? So after much research and talking to some wonderful people in the baking/blogging world, here we are. Welcome to my blog; The Sugar Siren - All things sugar and mermaids.
